After the lavender, and the bumblebees, gem-like alpine strawberries picked from underneath crinkle edged leaves. Afternoon tea and cake in the garden, many, many photos taken trying to capture the exact scarlet of the berries, the green of the leaves, until Dad started huffing about time wasting and grabbed his slice of cake.
Now it is raining, heavily, with the odd groan of thunder. I am facing the prospect of a journey home in inappropriate shoes, and Sunday afternoon (both the last one and the next) seems a long way away.
Also, a big thank you to Lisa-Marie for the blog award, very sweet of you!
That Victoria sponge looks wonderful and tastes it too I bet! Delicious strawberries...and great photo's too!

Ooo, that looks delicious. And the strawberries look exquisite.
ReplyDeleteThat cake looks fabulous! Are those wild strawberries?
ReplyDeleteI completely empathise with the inappropriate shoes scenario. How silly for thinking it was summer!

ReplyDeleteI got caught with flipflops yesterday in the rain. I had a brolly but it didnt end up making that much of a difference, i was utterly soaked!
You are very welcome. Also, I think I'll make Victoria sponge for my anniversary cake.

I love your recipe! If I could devour your photos with my eyes your dessert would be gone! Your recipe reminds me of strawberry shortcake, however much more sophisticated! If you have a moment would you please post your recipe.
ReplyDeleteHave a happy and safe day!
@ swiftreverie - no not wild, they are growing in my Mum's garden. I know them as Alpine Strawberries but maybe the type is also the same as wild ones, not sure!
ReplyDelete@ The Selkie - I'm afraid I didn't bake the cake, it was bought from a local farmers market so I don't have a recipe for it. When I do bake Victoria sponge I use Nigella Lawson's recipe if you want to google it, it's very good!
Aha, I published a post of my own yesterday about anniversary Victoria sponge cake in the garden - but I see you had the idea before me! Lovely photos again. My mum used to grow Alpine strawbs too.
ReplyDeleteYUMMO!
